CHESS DEMONSTRATIONS

Melbourne Chess Club (MCC) will run chess tournaments during the Arnold Classic, including several quick- and rapid-play tournaments, including:

– Allegro (13 minutes per player per game, plus 30 second increment from move 1)

– Blitz (3 minutes per player per game, plus 30 second increment from move 1)

– Simultaneous exhibitions by strong Masters

MCC will also offer coaching, and a blindfold chess demonstration!

Chess is the leading mind game worldwide.  Originating in 7th century India, chess now has over 600 million regular adult players according to a recent survey.  And that’s only the adults!

Chess is a game of deep strategy and mind-blowing combinations.  Chess is taught in schools, given its ability to train the mind in a fun and competitive environment. 

Benjamin Franklin (the US Founding Father) said: “The Game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits ready on all occasions; for life is a kind of Chess“.
